NYC –> Shanghai, 38 days & counting: I cheated on you tonight
August 3rd, 2013. 38 days.
Dear East Village. I cheated on you tonight. With Park Slope…
Tonight we went to Prospect Park for BRIC’s Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival, featuring the Eddie Palmieri Orchestra. The Festival was originally launched in 1979 to help revitalize the then downtrodden Prospect Park (hard to believe this area was ever in decline considering the number of parents there are happily strolling their babies in this neighborhood!). I’m so happy we made the “trek” over to Brooklyn to enjoy this beautiful summer night with our friends and what must have been a couple thousand of our fellow New Yorkers. The music was fantastic (definitely got those Cuban hips moving), the crowd diverse, and the energy palpable. My only regrets are that I don’t take advantage of these types of free events – did I mention it was free (well, they suggest a $3 donation) – more often and that I too rarely stray from our neighborhood! Unfortunately, I’m likely not the only New Yorker that has those regrets! My plan for Shanghai is to conduct my “advanced people watching” in as many neighborhoods as I can! Here’s to not getting siloed!
